As Filipinos become more proactive about their health and future well-being, the need for more flexible and long-term health protection continues to grow. Addressing this shift, AIA Philippines recently launched AIA Critical Protect Plus, a new multi-claim critical illness insurance plan designed to provide continued coverage across different stages of illness.

The media launch, held last May 6 at Pretty Huge, briefly gave attendees a firsthand experience of the campaign’s message, “All-In for the Long Game of Health,” through a series of interactive activities and obstacle challenges.
A Reminder That Health Is a Long Game
One of the activities during the launch was a quick “True or False” game that shared insights about critical illness protection and the realities many families face today when it comes to long-term healthcare and financial preparedness. It served as a reminder that health risks can become more complex over time, making preparation just as important as prevention. The event also included a series of obstacle challenges that tied into the campaign’s overall message.

One thing I did not expect was how intense the warmups would be. At first, it honestly felt a little too serious -- until I saw the obstacle course waiting for us afterward.

Level 1 felt manageable enough, but Level 2 was a completely different story. The monkey bars immediately humbled me, and I quickly realized I couldn’t even get through them. I ended up moving to the hanging bridge instead, which was the only obstacle I successfully completed.

As funny as the experience was, it also became a reminder of how easy it is to overlook our physical health in the middle of daily routines and responsibilities. The activities tied in well with the event’s overall message: taking care of our health is something we continuously work on over time.
What Makes AIA Critical Protect Plus Different
Unlike traditional critical illness plans that typically provide only a one-time payout, AIA Critical Protect Plus allows policyholders to claim up to three times for major critical illnesses, helping provide continued financial protection even after an initial diagnosis. The plan also provides coverage for early-stage, intermediate-stage, and major critical illnesses, allowing policyholders to receive support even before conditions become severe.

Designed for flexibility, the plan covers 106 critical conditions, expandable to up to 146 through riders, with coverage extending up to age 100. Additional optional benefits include coverage for emerging conditions, ICU support, gender-specific cancers, waiver of premium after major illness, and compassionate death benefits.
Another key feature is its integration with AIA Vitality, AIA’s science-backed wellness program that encourages healthier lifestyle habits while allowing policyholders to potentially boost their coverage based on healthy behaviors.
Moving Beyond One-Time Protection
During the launch, Melita Teo, Chief Executive Officer of AIA Philippines, emphasized the growing need for more sustainable health protection solutions. As Filipinos live longer, the risk of facing critical illness more than once is no longer unlikely -- it’s becoming a reality. AIA Critical Protect Plus moves beyond one-time protection, giving customers the flexibility and continued coverage they need across multiple diagnoses.
said Melita Teo, Chief Executive Officer of AIA Philippines.
As health risks continue to evolve, AIA Critical Protect Plus aims to help Filipinos stay financially protected through different stages of their health journey -- reinforcing the importance of staying all-in for the long game of health.

While many Filipinos value good health, a common misconception persists: that feeling well now means critical illness is unlikely, leading many to delay preparation until a health crisis hits
said Melissa Henson, Chief Marketing Officer of AIA Philippines.
Because we feel healthy today, it is easy to assume serious illness won’t happen to us, or won’t happen again. But the reality is risks evolve, and preparation needs to happen before a crisis -- not after.
That misconception has real consequences
added Gary Ogilvie, Chief Financial Officer, AIA Philippines.
When critical illness strikes, it doesn’t just affect your health -- it disrupts income, drains savings, and puts families under severe financial pressure. Treatment and recovery can cost a lot. For instance, according to our research, serious illnesses like heart disease, stroke, cancer, pneumonia, and diabetes cost hundreds of thousands to over PHP 2 million to treat. Government subsidy and HMOs cover only a portion. In most cases, the biggest expense is out of pocket, often PHP 700,000 to over PHP 1 million. This is why preparation matters: having financial protection in place early gives people the ability to focus on recovery, not on how to pay the bills.
