CONTEST [SEP01-OCT31 2018]: The Maya Kitchen: Show your Best #MayaHotcakeArt and Win Php20K worth of Maya Products and more!

Get ready with your tools! Time to show off your #MayaHotcakeArt!

I may have lost my creative juices but I cannot deny my love for art! Hotcake Art is just another venue to express creativity and at the same time, enjoy a fun breakfast or snack!
colorful hearts made by my niece, Xye

My first encounter with Hotcake Art was held at The Maya Kitchen with The Pancake Warrior himself, Elle Jay Orbase. You can find my post here: http://www.patchesoflifebyjessa.com/2018/06/maya-hotcake-art-with-the-pancake-warrior.html.

I totally enjoyed doing Hotcake Art for the first time that at home, even without the necessary tools such as food coloring, spatula, squeeze bottles, etc., I still tried to create some for my little boy which he had fun eating too!

Imagine my delight when I got a Maya Hotcake Art Kit containing the complete tools such as crepe pan, spatula, squeeze bottles, food coloring, apron, instruction manual, and of course, Maya Quick n' Easy Hotcake Mix.
#MayaHotcakeArt I made for my son, Rhyme

My son was out with his dad and so I asked my niece Xye and nephew Jaren to help me out. I'll share with you the basic steps and hopefully, you'll get to try this yourself at home and who knows, you might even come up with a Maya Hotcake Art that can win Php20,000 worth of Maya Products and a FREE pass to The Maya Kitchen class.

Here we go:

STEP 01 : Mix your Hotcake Batter
  • It is really best to use Maya Quick n' Easy Hotcake Mix as all you need to add is water. Mix it well and you're good!
  • But you know what's better? Dividing your batter into different bowls and adding food coloring to each. In that way, you get to have different colors of batter for your hotcake art

STEP 02 : Pour Batter into Squeeze Bottle/s
  • Squeeze bottles will make it easier to draw on the pan and come up with your desired work of art
  • In pouring your batter to squeeze bottles, I find it much easier to use a funnel
  • In case you don't have squeeze bottles or you don't have enough squeeze bottles for the number of colors you want to achieve (which was our case), you can improvise with ice plastic with cut tip
no squeeze bottles? improvise with ice plastic!

STEP 03 : Draw your Design
  • Make sure you have greased the pan. You don't need to open the stove yet
  • This is the fun part where you're free to draw whatever you want! Make use of different colors, draw shapes, characters, etc.
  • When you make your hotcake art, it is better if you draw the outlines first as this will hold the design in
  • If you plan to incorporate letters or words, be sure to draw them in reverse as the flipped side will be the front
  • If you just have plain batter, no food coloring, you can still create gradients by cooking certain parts that you want to be darker, then adding the other sections later on

STEP 04 : Turn On the Stove
  • The cooking part! One of the exciting parts yet you have to be careful not to overcook some sections of your drawing
  • While it is cooking, you'll notice some bubbles forming. It is wait for the bubbles to stop popping before you go to the next step, which is flipping the hotcake!
ready to be cooked!

STEP 05 : Flip and Say, "Wow!"
  • Crucial step! May make or break (literally) your hotcake art
  • Be sure to grease your spatula so the hotcake won't stick on it
  • Check all sides if they can already be lifted without breaking or sticking on the pan
  • Flip to cook the other side of the hotcake. At this point, your Maya Hotcake Art is revealed!
