Elait: Artisanal Rolled Ice Cream!

Elait! SM Mall of Asia

November 21, 2017 marked the Grand Opening of Elait!'s third branch located at the Second Floor North Entertainment Mall of SM Mall of Asia.
elate + lait = elait! Happiness in a Cup!

It is just a small space with a few tables and seats for around 10-15 people, but the interior is filled with light colors and a huge "Happiness in a Cup" backdrop. According to the owner, Francis Reyes, the term Elait came from a combination of two terms: lait meaning milk in French, and elate meaning to make someone ecstatically happy. Great thinking 'cause it really suits their product, which is rolled ice cream. Who wouldn't be happy with ice cream... especially this good!
Deaf/Mute Staff

The concept came from Thailand where they had rolled ice cream as street food. When Francis brought the concept here, he wanted it to be on a higher level and special so he made use of fresh fruits and high quality ingredients. And true enough, even though this is not the first rolled ice cream (some called it fried ice cream) I've tried, this is the best so far in terms of flavor, serving size, and quality.
roll it!! roll, roll!!

It is fun to enjoy ice cream in a different form and it all started with the liquid ice cream. Mixers are placed on the cream, either yogurt or custard base, and are smashed altogether. The mixture will then be spread on the very cold flat pan machine where the liquid ice cream will start to freeze. It will be rolled and placed in a cup. Drizzles and toppings for the final touch.
rolling some happiness!

What is really commendable about Elait! is that they provide opportunities to PWD such as deaf and mute by hiring them as staff. Customers need not worry as they have order forms and there are also sign language posters that they can use to communicate even a simple "thank you".
adding the toppings

Now here are some flavors that I've tried.
various mixers and toppings

All That Junk (180Php)
Oreo, potato chips, pretzel, M&Ms, chocolate vermicelli, chocolate drizzle
All That Junk

All That Junk brings out the kid in you by putting altogether chocolates, biscuits, and even potato chips! Yes, potato chips! Crazy but fun combination! Best with custard base.

Tiramisu (180Php)
Coffee, cream cheese, lady fingers, chocolate drizzle, chocolate shards
Tiramisu

If you're into coffee in your ice cream, Tiramisu is a must-try! Its combination with cream cheese and chocolate is so good... and oh, lady fingers for added crunch! Try it with custard base.

Matcha Red Bean (200Php)
Matcha, red bean, matcha white sauce
Matcha Red Bean

Being a matcha lover, I can't let this Matcha Red Bean pass. It is one of the premium selections priced at Php200 and goes well with custard base. There's no question about matcha and red bean as they really go well together. But it's the Matcha White sauce that gave more oomph to this ice cream. I remember my favorite Matcha White dip at Overdoughs which has the same owner as Elait.

Mango Kiwi Pavlova (180Php)
Mango, kiwi, meringue, strawberry drizzle
Mango Kiwi Pavlova

For a fruity flavor, I recommend this Mango Kiwi Pavlova. Its colorful combination is definitely enticing! I prefer it with yogurt base that matches the sweet-sour fruit tastes. I love the addition of meringue, which makes it a pavlova by the way, giving more sweetness and texture to this delightful dessert!

delighted at Elait!

Overall, I've enjoyed all the flavors I tried -- there's chocolate-y, fruity, coffee, and matcha! And there are a lot more flavors to choose from, plus you can even make your own! For Php180, you can choose your base: custard or yogurt, 2 mixers, 2 toppings, and a drizzle! A cup is big enough to be shared by 2 or 3 people. The ice cream itself is really good that you can taste the quality of the product. And lastly, you know you are supporting our PWD community with each cup you order from Elait!
