Repertory Philippines: [FEB15-MAR10 2019] 'Miong' at Greenbelt1 OnStage Theater!

Repertory Philippines Miong

Repertory Philippines, or REP, is opening its 2019 season with a remake of one of its most acclaimed original play -- Miong.
the young Miong and his father

From a 3-hour show in 1998, Director Joy Virata re-crafted this musical into a 2-hour piece with the help of Ian Monsod's songs and additional lyrics from Freddie Santos.
dark past during the Spanish era

A fast paced and colorful depiction of the life of Emilio "Miong" Aguinaldo from his birth to the historical raising of the flag in Kawit, Cavite.
the people believing in Miong

The play may have started dark that it gave chill to the bones as it revealed the unjust persecution of Filipinos during the Spanish era. But even though this is the environment the young Miong grew up with, his life traversing early years to teen and adulthood was not far from a normal boy. Not being able to fit in school, falling in love for the first time -- these moments were vibrantly presented through remarkable musical direction by Ejay Yatco and spirited choreography by Dexter Santos.
the battle

The first act had the light and heavy lingering moments, but the second half of the show tackled the serious, more important events in our history. How Miong rose up to lead, how he confronted the conflicts with his fellowmen and even within himself.
the first in our history

Miong sets another perspective from what the popular movies have shown about our history. But it is another way of looking at the past, listening to what may have been untold, yet still learning from the people who contributed to the freedom we are experiencing now.
the cast

Watch Tim Pavino on his first lead role as Miong, Noel Rayos as Berong, Cara Barredo as Yayang, Meynard Penalosa as Father Blas, Elver Esquivel as Don Carlos, and Lani Ligot as Kapitana Teneng from February 15 to March 10 2019 at the Greenbelt 1 OnStage Theater.
