Happy Dumplings: 8 Kinds Hakaw, Beancurd Roll, and more!

Happy Dumplings

Here at SM City Fairview lies the home of flavored hakaw, a first of its kind in the country -- Happy Dumplings!
what a pleasant interior!

Located at the Upper Ground Floor of SM City Fairview, you'll be delighted to see their wonderful interior. For sure those huge wall sights will catch your attention -- cheerful, colorful, cute dumplings!
love the couch seats definitely good vibes!

They have seats for 2, 3, or 4, and comfy couches. But if you want a more intimate dining experience, the seats and spaces at the inner part of the resto are quieter and cozier.

While waiting for your food to be served, you can watch the chefs prepare them for you at their open kitchen.

Happy Dumplings offers authentic Chinese dishes at an affordable price point. They've got dimsum, noodles, and rice toppings. Their Rice Toppings range from Php98 to Php168, of significant serving size, and with unlimited rice!

8 Kinds Hakaw (238Php)
8 Kinds Hakaw

This is the first time I've heard of Hakaw in different flavors and colors. And here at Happy Dumplings, I've tasted them all!

Although we're used to have soy sauce to dip our hakaw with, resist the temptation. In that way, you'll be able to savor each hakaw flavor.
  • Plain (white)
  • Bagoong (red)
  • Wasabi (purple)
  • Szechuan (orange)
  • Garlic (yellow)
  • Salted Egg (gray)
  • Satay (green)
  • Curry (brown)

What I did was to guess the Hakaw flavor based on the taste. Some flavors are more obvious than the rest, like for Szechuan, I find it really spicy that upon popping the whole hakaw in my mouth, I was shocked. But that is also because I don't have high tolerance with spicy food. I easily guessed the Bagoong and Wasabi flavors too. Their tastes are strong enough to determine the flavor without overpowering the essence of hakaw -- the shrimp and pork taste. I love the flavor balance

For Garlic, Satay, Curry, and Salted Egg, I needed some clues before I got them correctly. Probably Garlic is the most subtle for me. For Satay, I noted the sweet hints and I actually love this flavor. Salted Egg is salty I almost thought it was the bagoong. Curry can be stronger to be more obvious.

Although the 8 Kinds Hakaw is a definite must-try when you visit Happy Dumplings, know that they have a lot of other great dishes in their menu. For one is their Salted Fish Fried Rice, a great alternative to the usual Yang Chow Fried Rice, which is also available here. The saltiness is just right, there are flakes of salted fish that you can taste, and a plate can be shared by two.

Combi 3 (250Php)
Combi 3

The Salted Fish Fried Rice is good on its own but if you want something to go with it, Combi 3 is a perfect option. You get Hong Kong Style Fried Chicken, Pork Asado, and Lechon Macau all in one dish. A serving can be shared by 3 to 4 people. Their meat are really succulent but what I found to be a plus factor are the sauces that go with them: Asado Sauce, Lechon Macau Sauce, and Ginger Sauce.

If you don't feel like eating rice, there are noodle soup options to satisfy your cravings. What I tried is the Soy Chicken Noodle Soup which is very hearty and warm, and a good way to cleanse the palate. It has tasty soup, thin firm noodles, and chicken chunks. A serving is too much for me so I'd say it can be shared by two.

Pork Asado Noodle Soup, Wanton Noodle Soup, Wanton Soup, and Beef Brisket Noodle Soup are also available.

Beancurd Roll (108Php)
Beancurd Roll

Dimsum classics are available here at Happy Dumplings. Beancurd Roll is one of them and although a classic dish, I've never tried this before... not until I visited Happy Dumplings. No regrets! This huge spring roll-like dish covered in tofu skin and soaked in flavorful sauce is not to be missed. Meaty, savory, and definitely satisfying.

Other dimsum favorites include Pork Siomai, Shrimp Siomai, Fried Wanton, Tausi Spareribs, Asado Siopao, Bola-Bola Siopao, Chicken Feet, and Fried Spring Rolls.

Fresh and bouncy Hakaw in different flavors and colors, tasty Fried Rice and Rice Toppings, succulent meat dishes, and a variety of classic Dimsum with prices not heavy on the pocket. I entered Happy Dumplings feeling excited to try something classic and new, left the place with a happy and satisfied heart. If there's something I could ask for, it's a branch nearer my place (haha!) as SM City Fairview is way too far from where I live and work. But if you frequent the area, go visit Happy Dumplings!
OMG! I ate them all!!
